KATE - I know! And she's only keeping 3 of them - I wonder what will happen to the other 2??

Nothoney - I know, it's a real shame.

Bookgirl - I was wondering about the cancer piece too. I mean, how do they prevent these clones from getting cancer? Also, I am sorry for the loss of your dog - I know it must be very, very difficult.

Bus Sales - Thanks!

I could not agree with you anymore. Obviously the woman loved Booger but it is an extremely selfish act to bring any animal into this world when so many are healthy companion animals are put down every day.

All of my animals are rescues and each one is very grateful to have been given a second chance. $50,000 would have made a world of difference in the lives of so many animals at her local shelter.

What I don't understand is why they chose a dog that died from cancer. If they clone the dog, then it is an exact replica of the original, right? Doesn't that mean that each of those puppies will eventually die of cancer? Why wouldn't they choose a dog that was healthy its entire life and died of old age? I don't care what breed they chose. I wish I could afford to clone the dog I lost last year. Nothing would bring me more joy. I miss him terribly. And maybe someday this will be more affordable to the general public. However, if they are going to advance science, they should use subjects that make sense. Healthy subjects that will not die of cancer in a few years. Otherwise, how will they know if they were truly successful.

Incredibly selfish, short-sighted, and plain ol' stupid ... that woman could've done so much good for homeless pets with that money.

I have to admit that I was totally horrified when I read the article yesterday. It is totally nonsensical - every day millions of stray animals are destroyed yet this ludicrous woman pays $50,000 to create 5 clones of her dog.

When will people understand that companion animals are not toys?!?
